Doula Training Curriculum Developer

Tewa Women United is seeking a Doula Training Curriculum Developer to serve as an Independant Consultant for our Yiya Vi Kagingdi (YVK) Doula Project.  The primary role is to research and help develop a training curricula for doulas.  We strongly encourage applicants who are passionate, caring, and committed to the well-being of pregnant and parenting families of Northern New Mexico to apply. Preference is given to those with experience in doula work, reproductive health and justice work, and curriculum development.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Coordinate curricula development committee, including the logistics of each session, including space, refreshments, and documentation.

  • Help set criteria for length, structure, methodology, dose, cultural relevance for inclusion in doula training curricula.

  • Guide curricula design  based on available best-practice and evidence-based resources.

  • Help design and prepare educational aids and materials

  • Support the evaluation process and outcome evaluation plans.

  • Assisting in identifying maternal child health stakeholders to serve as Curricula Development Committee and identify potential Doula Training Project faculty and/ or  advisors for the project.

  • Orientate, coordinate and support content-experts, trainers and guest speakers.

  • Partner with internal stakeholders and liaise with matter experts regarding instructional design

  • Help determine how to monitor trainees’ participation and development throughout the program.

  • Coordinate efforts and maintain open communication with Indigenous Women’s Health Program Manager and staff.

  • Provide train-the-trainer sessions for internal subject matter experts.

  • Develops and implements a quality assurance component in collaboration with the IWH Manager and the agency, which tracks program’s goals, targets, and outcomes.

  • Collect information and report outcome data on both quarterly and annual basis.

  • Contribute to the overall accomplishment of the program through communication, positive teamwork and attendance.

  • Report directly to the IWH Program in providing notice of administrative needs and to receive guidance on agency procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned by the IWH Program Manager based on the needs of the overall IWH Program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Health, Education, or a related field

  • Strong professional development experience, as well as having developed at least one curricula or certified as a training of trainers in at least two curricula.

  • One year experience as a trainer.

  • One year of group facilitation experience.

  • Proven work experience in coordinating multiple training events in a corporate setting

  • Experience working with pregnant and parenting women, maternal child health.

  • Doula certification a plus.

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Doula certification or experience in birthwork preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly establish goals and objectives; plan/organize activities and projects; demonstrate good negotiation skills; work independently; and demonstrate good judgment.

  • Capability to communicate clearly in written and oral form; ability to interact with a variety of personnel at different levels of responsibility.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective interpersonal relationship with co-workers; colleagues; collaborative partners; board members, government officials, volunteers and customers/constituents.

  • Utilize computer equipment, software and other electronic devices to perform work effectively and efficiently are desirable.  Knowledge of Google, BaseCamp, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and database management software is desirable.

  • Experience working with Native American communities/clientele; cultural sensitivity to the needs and distinct tribal and cultural ways of life and willingness to complete cultural competency trainings and/ or Undoing Racism trainings.
