T’Sayain Support Espanola Veterans and Community

On October 26, our T’Sayain (Grandmothers and Wisdomkeepers) came out in support of the “End All Suicide Coalition Veterans Stand Down” event at The Rock in Espanola.

They joined other community organizations—including Northern New Mexico College’s Veteran Resource Center, The Rock Christian Academy, and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)—to offer a warm welcome to our veterans, and to remember and honor POW-MIA soldiers.

Sayas Evelyn, Gloria, Kathy, Mary, and Ana came with donations of socks, popcorn, lavender healing pouches, flowers, coffee, and breakfast pastries, and of course Ana serenaded everyone with her beautiful songs!

At the end of the day, nearly 40 veterans and community members had received support and resources to help them with issues including VA benefits, food, clothing, and homelessness. We were honored to be part of this effort.

Ross Griego, a veteran and member of the Stand Down planning committee, said, “I want to extend my appreciation for your sponsorship, and all that you do for the men and women service members/veterans. Tewa Women United and LC-18 have consistently helped us in our Veterans Community events. For that I am grateful to all of you!”

T’Sayain — a circle of inter-tribal, multicultural women who are either grandmothers themselves or supportive elders — is the nurturing breath that infuses and inspires the work of Tewa Women United. Their wisdom and presence illuminate all that we do.

Here’s just some of what the T’Sayain offer to our community:
