Community Engagement and Events

The GGHJ Program support Tewa Women United’s mission to cultivate a ‘beloved community’ and safe, inspiring spaces for people within the Española Valley.

Skatepark Rebuild & Events

We are nurturing the evolution of this space as it grows beyond the mainstream skateboarding narrative by prioritizing diversity and inclusivity. This project aims to provide a welcoming space for girls, women, gender expansive people, beginner skaters, and people with physical disabilities. By breaking down barriers, we promote physical activity, skill development, and safe social engagement for all. Through pooling resources, guided by community voices, we foster the Valdez Park skatepark rebuild and special events, thus ensuring skateboarding, art, and music hold space in ‘The Valley’ and will continue to for future generations.

Gender Justice Book Club

We harness the knowledge gained from local and indigenous-authored literature to foster open discussions on cultural perspectives and the diverse experiences portrayed in the books. By applying the lessons learned from these narratives, the book club transforms into a platform for raising awareness, cultivating empathy, and inspiring actionable steps within both the group and the broader community.

Engaging Men and Boys Events

We believe it is imperative to involve men and boys in reclaiming healthy masculinities and preventing violence against young women, girls, and those disproportionately impacted by gender-based violence. Through efforts which incorporate elements of both our Reimagine Masculinity curriculum and New Mexico’s Healthy Masculinities Toolkit, we realize our vision of communities that acknowledge the complexity of holding men accountable for the dismantling of sexism, while honoring they too are victims of sexual violence and rigid gender stereotypes. Just as gender justice work is not only for female-identifying people, neither is gender-based healing.
