What if your garden waste, leaves, and kitchen scraps could become the most powerful soil amendment on the planet — and you could build the system that makes it for about $150?
That’s exactly what we’re doing at this free Johnson-Su Bioreactor Workshop, open to all community members.
Humans have been building fertile soil for thousands of years — the ancient Amazonian terra preta soils are over 5,000 years old and still more productive than the land around them today. The secret ingredient? A thriving underground fungal network. The Johnson-Su Bioreactor was designed to rebuild exactly that.
It’s a 5-foot tall, 4-foot wide cylinder you build once, fill once, and never turn. Minimal smell, minimal pests — just a static compost system quietly growing one of the most microbially rich soil amendments you can make right in your backyard, on your farm, or at your community garden. One reactor holds around 1,800 pounds of material and can produce compost so potent it works at just one pound per acre.
In this workshop, we’ll build one together, hands-on, from scratch.
If you grow food, steward land, or just want to stop throwing organic matter away — this one’s for you.
