As we begin 2025, reproductive health is a major point of conversation in many households. This interactive workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to the concept of reproductive justice, a framework developed by women of color to address the intersection of reproductive healthcare/rights, social justice, and human rights. We will explore reproductive justice through the lens of Indigenous knowledges, sovereignty, and resistance. Reproductive justice, as a framework, aligns with Indigenous values of relationality, community care, and self-determination. Together, we will examine how colonial systems have impacted Indigenous reproductive health and rights, from forced sterilization and family separation to the erosion of traditional birthing practices.

Participants will learn about the ongoing efforts to reclaim Indigenous reproductive sovereignty, including the revitalization of traditional midwifery, access to culturally competent healthcare, and advocacy for policies that respect tribal sovereignty and community needs. The workshop will emphasize the intersection of reproductive justice with land, water, and environmental health, recognizing that the well-being of future generations is tied to the stewardship of our natural world. By the end of the session, participants will have a deeper understanding of how reproductive justice extends beyond the pro-choice/pro-life binary, encompassing issues such as maternal health, contraception access, gender-affirming care, childcare, and economic justice. They will leave equipped with tools to foster change within their communities and to support inclusive, equitable reproductive health policies and practices.

This workshop will create a space for sharing experiences, building solidarity, and envisioning a future where Indigenous communities have full control over their bodies, families, and futures.

Food and drinks will be offered, as well as a raffle!
