Health and wellness are interconnected with our ancestors, the land, and future generations. In our communities, we understand that conditions like gestational diabetes affect not only the individual but also the broader circle of family, community, and the balance within our environment.
In “Understanding Gestational Diabetes,” we will explore how caring for our health during pregnancy supports our children’s well-being, aiming to prevent conditions that might pass down through generations.
Diabetes affects the core of family health. It stems not only from genetics but also from lifestyle factors, environment, and diet, many of which are shaped by colonization and shifts away from traditional foods and practices. In understanding gestational diabetes, we are reclaiming our knowledge and power over our health.
We honor the strength of our traditions and land-based practices, which hold vital lessons in nutrition, movement, and mindfulness.
Through this class, we aim to provide elements to parents and families to nurture the next generation, supporting children from potential risks by incorporating ancestral practices that align with the body’s natural rhythms. This is about more than preventing disease; it’s about fostering resilience in the body, mind, and spirit of our children, connecting them to the teachings of our ancestors, and ensuring that their paths are healthier, with fewer obstacles in their way.
