Towa Bi Woh / Barrio Remedios
Towa Bi Woh / Barrio Remedios, a collaboration with Barrios Unidos, provides herbal and plant medicines for our community. Other partners include Colibri Corazon and Feathercatcher Apothecary, as well as other community herbalists and farmers.
Barrios Unidos, based in Chimayo, is an interdisciplinary, inter-generational and inter-cultural community investigating cultural and psychological issues related to addiction and cultural trauma in the Española Valley.
Lupe Salazar of Barrios Unidos does weekly outreach and is offering these remedios to the most vulnerable in our community. Tewa Women United supports this project by dedicating staff time to the collection of herbs and flowers, assisting in making remedios, and inviting support for the project.

CURRENT PROJECT NEWS
June 2023
We’re collecting roses for remedios!
Roses are powerful for uplifting the heart and emotions. We use roses in our Grief Support remedio for the community through our Towa Bi Woh / Barrio Remedios Project. Your roses will become an offering of medicine to all who are processing grief during these challenging times!
Please contact pilar@tewawomenunited.org if you have *roses* to donate.
Details…
- Any variety/color is welcome
- Roses MUST be grown WITHOUT pesticides & synthetic fertilizers
- Free of fungus/mold or disease
- Avoid any roses along busy roads
How to harvest/donate:
- Give thanks to the roses for their medicine!
- Gently remove petals or snip stem and remove petals after.
- Mini rose buds can be cut before they open.
- Place petals or mini rose buds in a basket or paper bag. AIR FLOW is important so mold does not grow — don’t put too many petals in one basket/bag
- Store in a cool, dry, & shady area. Shake the bag or basket every day to help it dry faster.
