Honoring Our Earth Mother and Our Sayain in the Month of May
Our Sayain have always been about collective care and Beloved Community. Please give today to support Tewa Women United’s Sayain/Circle of Grandmothers.
During this pandemic time, Tewa Women United’s Sayain/Circle of Grandmothers is at the heart of our efforts to make sure that everyone in our communities is cared for and protected, especially the most vulnerable. Under usual circumstances, the Sayain would travel to be in person with families who are grieving the loss of loved ones, but even now it is possible for them to offer healing prayers from a distance and offer help in other ways. We want to support them in this and all their good efforts.
During this month of May, in honor of all mothers and our Earth Mother/ Nung Ochuu Quiyo, we are raising funds so that our Sayain can:
- Make and distribute care bundles to elders and others in need, especially during this pandemic time and also throughout the rest of this year. We anticipate that the Sayain will be giving out approximately 1,200 care packages this year.
- Have access to internet devices that will help them stay connected with other Pueblo and Native communities, especially those who are experiencing losses related to COVID-19.
- Work with young people who will help to record videos of joyful practices for connecting with our Earth Mother, such as planting seeds, cooking, and creative practices. These videos will serve as an inspiration and also become an easily accessible library of Tewa lifeways for our younger generation.
Our fundraising goal for this month is $15,000 to accomplish all of the above.
During this month, we especially raise up the core team of Sayain who have carried the heartbeat of TWU through the years: Evelyn Naranjo, Rachel Agoyo, and Elder Kathy Sanchez. These three women have given so much to our communities and to ensuring that Tewa Women United is an enduring resource for so many people.
Your gift during the month of May will support all the Sayain/grandmothers to continue to be a force for healing and Love during this time of COVID-19, and throughout the rest of the year.
This is a wonderful month to make a donation to Tewa Women United in honor of your mother or grandmother, and Nung Ochuu Quiyo — our Earth Mother.
