Healthy Masculinities Initiative 2025
Tewa Women United is one of 12 organizations to receive a grant from New Mexico Women.org to reimagine what masculinity can look like — grounded in healing, accountability, and care.
This project will provide training for adult educators from local schools and youth facilitators to implement the Healthy Masculinities Toolkit, with a special invitation for male-identifying educators and youth to join. The training will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to facilitate tough conversations and the lesson plans featured in the Healthy Masculinities Toolkit.
Youth facilitators will be compensated for their participation, recognizing their valuable role in peer-to-peer learning and community leadership. Youth who complete the training will also be invited to facilitate lessons during A’Gin Youth Council meetings and events. Adults who complete the training will be offered the opportunity for TWU’s team to observe them facilitating a lesson from the toolkit within their classrooms, and the chance to debrief with the observers.
The training will take place in an outdoor education setting, integrating outdoor skill-building to create a connection to the curriculum and restorative learning experience. Nature-based activities will complement the curriculum, promoting personal growth and deeper connections to the concepts explored.
This project seeks to create long-term impact by empowering educators and youth to challenge gender-based harm and cultivate a culture of consent. The skills gained will ripple through classrooms and peer networks, contributing to safer, more inclusive environments for all. Additionally, we will use this opportunity to expand our collaborations with other schools in the area by inviting educators who seek to partner with us and share in the work.
